In Olympic Taekwondo Juniors, kids follow a structured belt system, mastering powerful kicks and growing through discipline and achievement. For the adventurous, Junior Ninja Warrior delivers obstacle-based training that enhances balance, bravery, and full-body movement. And if tumbling is their thing, Junior Gymnastics Tumbling offers flips, rolls, and jumps that build strength, flexibility, and body awareness — perfect for beginners and energetic movers alike. Born and raised in Grande Prairie, Zach Bannister is a hometown success story who climbed the ranks from local rinks to the professional level. Zach played junior hockey in the SJHL where he posted 135 points in 133 games, including a breakout 70-point season with La Ronge. He went on to play NCAA college hockey at Wisconsin-Superior (where he won a WIAC championship) and Stevenson University, scoring 27 points in 28 games during his final year. Zach made his professional debut with the Norfolk Admirals before joining the Adirondack Thunder and now the Indy Fuel in the ECHL. His journey reflects exactly what we aim to instill in our players — skill, resilience, and belief in what’s possible.

Coach Fowler is a veteran instructor with experience in both high-level hockey and athletic development. Known for his innovative approach to dryland and mindset training, Travis has worked with professional hockey organizations including the San Antonio Rampage (AHL), as well as coaching professionally for the National Hockey Training Centre and brings a background that blends sports psychology, discipline, and elite performance techniques. Based in Grande Prairie, Fowler is deeply involved in the community and is also known for his previous long-term role with the Grande Prairie Storm as a play-by-play commentator and game-night host, which he now does for Grande Prairie Athletics Sr Men’s team. As a complement to his achievements in the 200-foot game, Travis also completed a 10-year journey to black belt in Wado karate and a lifelong dedication to coaching. Coach Fowler understands discipline and brings a leadership-driven training style that goes far beyond drills — he helps build athletes from the inside out.

Boxing (Junior Ages 6-11)

For Junior Champions Ages 6-11, our boxing programs are progressive, ranked and emphasize how ‘not to get hit’. Your child learns to think clearly under pressure, and to get out of nearly any situation with slick footwork! With the added physical conditioning, and newly discovered courage, any bullies disappear and school success skyrockets. Parents can also breathe a little easier knowing their child’s increased personal power, speed and reflexes through proper training and technique carries life-long protection. Once in the program, they get a White t-shirt with bars on the sleeve that the Coach fills out as they progress! When the bars are filled, your child progresses to the next colour shirt until they achieve black level. Competitive opportunities always available but not required.
Introductory Session For This Class:
When your Junior Champion comes to their first class, they will meet the lead Boxing Coach, Alex. Then, with activewear such as T-shirt, track pants/shorts, and indoor shoes, they can begin their first class that runs 50 minutes. Be prepared to sweat and get into the fundamentals right away! Water fountain and bottle refill station available.

GO Kickboxing (Junior Ages 6-11)

Kickboxing is an exciting and dynamic martial art that’s perfect for children aged 6 to 11. At Champion Gym, our kickboxing program is designed to teach kids important life skills like discipline, focus, and self-control, all while keeping them active and having fun. Through a series of punches, kicks, knees, elbows and defensive techniques, children will improve their coordination, balance, and fitness in a safe, structured environment.

What sets our kickboxing program apart is that it is graded, meaning students can earn rankings as they progress. These rankings motivate children to set goals and work hard to achieve them, with each level representing an accomplishment they can be proud of. This structured progression helps instill a strong sense of determination, perseverance, and confidence as students advance through the ranks.

Parents love that kickboxing provides a healthy outlet for their child’s energy while teaching valuable life skills like respect, teamwork, and resilience. With Coach Alex, a Master and former national champion, guiding them, your child will enjoy fun, interactive workouts that build strength, stamina, and self-discipline, all within a positive and supportive environment.

Introductory Session For This Class:

In the introductory kickboxing class for Junior Champions (aged 6 to 11) at Champion Gym, your child will get a chance to meet our enthusiastic and supportive coaches. The class begins with a warm-up to get their bodies moving and ready to learn, followed by an introduction to basic kickboxing techniques like proper stance, punches, kicks, and defensive moves. Our coaches make sure that the techniques are taught in a fun and engaging way, focusing on building confidence while learning proper form.

Throughout the class, your child will practice these techniques through drills and partner exercises,
with coaches offering guidance and support every step of the way. The class is designed to be enjoyable and challenging, giving kids a taste of how kickboxing can improve their fitness, focus, and confidence. As they progress, they’ll also get an introduction to our ranking system, where hard work is rewarded with the chance to earn higher ranks.

For the first class, your child should wear comfortable athletic clothing such as a T-shirt and shorts or track pants.Water fountain and bottle refill station available. Most importantly, they just need to bring a positive attitude and an eagerness to try something new!

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Junior Ages 6 - 11)

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is an excellent martial art for children aged 6 to 11, focusing on teaching self-defense, discipline, and confidence through fun, interactive training. At Champion Gym, BJJ emphasizes technique and leverage, allowing smaller and younger students to feel empowered and capable of defending themselves, all while staying safe. The movements are playful yet effective, giving children the tools to stay calm under pressure and solve physical challenges with strategic thinking rather than force.

For younger children, BJJ is more than just physical activity—it’s a way to develop mental

toughness, respect for others, and perseverance. Through engaging drills and partner-based exercises, kids learn to listen, follow directions, and work as a team. Our instructors create a positive and encouraging environment where students can grow both physically and emotionally, building lasting friendships with their peers.

Introductory Session For This Class:

In the introductory Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ0 class for your Junior (ages 6 to 11) at Champion Gym, your child will get to meet our friendly and experienced coaches who specialize in working with young students. The class will start with a fun warm-up to get them moving, followed by learning basic BJJ techniques like how to fall safely, escape from different positions, and simple movements for controlling an opponent. The coaches focus on making sure each child feels confident and engaged, using games and drills to teach key skills in a way that feels like play. This first experience is all about building confidence, having fun, and introducing the fundamentals of BJJ in a supportive and energetic environment.

For their first class, your child should wear comfortable athletic clothing like a T-shirt and track pants. No special equipment is required, and we have a water fountain/bottle refill station (they’ll need it!). Most importantly, your child just needs a positive attitude and excitement to try something new!

Olympic Taekwondo (Novice/Advanced)

Olympic Taekwondo is an exciting martial art that focuses on dynamic kicking techniques, making it an excellent choice for children. At the Champion Taekwondo Academy at Champion Gym, our Olympic Taekwondo program is designed to enhance physical fitness, coordination, and flexibility while teaching important life skills such as discipline, focus, and respect. Children will learn a variety of kicks, strikes, and self-defence techniques in a structured, safe environment that promotes both physical and mental development.

Ninja Warrior (Novice/Intermediate/Advanced)

Champion Ninja Warrior is a high-energy, fun-filled program that challenges children both physically and mentally. At Champion Gym, this program is designed to help kids improve their strength, agility, coordination, and problem-solving skills as they navigate through obstacle courses inspired by the popular Ninja Warrior challenges. Each class is packed with climbing, jumping, balancing, and swinging activities that help children build confidence, perseverance, and athleticism in a safe and supportive environment.

Our experienced coaches, Todd and Dan, ensure that every child, regardless of ability, feels encouraged and motivated to do their best. The program is perfect for kids who love to be active and thrive on challenges. Introductory Session For This Class:
For their introductory class, your child should wear indoor athletic shoes and comfortable clothing like track pants or shorts. Water fountain and bottle refill station available. A positive attitude and a willingness to tackle new challenges are all they need to get started!

Gymnastics (Junior Ages 6-11)

Champion Gymnastics Tumbling with Coach Grace is a fun and energetic program tailored for children aged 6 to 12 (Junior Champions) who are eager to improve their agility, strength, and coordination. In this class, students will learn fundamental tumbling skills such as rolls, handstands, cartwheels, and flips, all in a safe and supportive environment. Coach Grace is dedicated to helping children progress at their own pace while keeping the sessions engaging and encouraging.

The program focuses not only on building physical abilities but also on developing confidence, discipline, and body awareness. Parents appreciate the positive atmosphere, where kids are inspired to challenge themselves and learn new skills while making friends and having fun.
