Classes run daily with flexible options to fit every schedule and goal. Teens can explore a range of exciting programs including Youth Boxing for confidence and striking skills, StrikeFIT Youth for high-intensity fitness training, Youth BJJ for ground control and real-world self-defense, and GO Kickboxing Youth for technical kickboxing, combos, and cardio conditioning. For those interested in martial arts mastery, we offer Olympic Taekwondo (novice to advanced), Youth MMA for a complete striking and grappling system, and Youth Commando Krav Maga for practical, real-life defense techniques. We also offer Ninja Warrior training — obstacle-based fitness that’s as challenging as it is fun.

Born and raised in Grande Prairie, Zach Bannister is a hometown success story who climbed the ranks from local rinks to the professional level. Zach played junior hockey in the SJHL where he posted 135 points in 133 games, including a breakout 70-point season with La Ronge. He went on to play NCAA college hockey at Wisconsin-Superior (where he won a WIAC championship) and Stevenson University, scoring 27 points in 28 games during his final year. Zach made his professional debut with the Norfolk Admirals before joining the Adirondack Thunder and now the Indy Fuel in the ECHL. His journey reflects exactly what we aim to instill in our players — skill, resilience, and belief in what’s possible.

Coach Fowler is a veteran instructor with experience in both high-level hockey and athletic development. Known for his innovative approach to dryland and mindset training, Travis has worked with professional hockey organizations including the San Antonio Rampage (AHL), as well as coaching professionally for the National Hockey Training Centre and brings a background that blends sports psychology, discipline, and elite performance techniques. Based in Grande Prairie, Fowler is deeply involved in the community and is also known for his previous long-term role with the Grande Prairie Storm as a play-by-play commentator and game-night host, which he now does for Grande Prairie Athletics Sr Men’s team. As a complement to his achievements in the 200-foot game, Travis also completed a 10-year journey to black belt in Wado karate and a lifelong dedication to coaching. Coach Fowler understands discipline and brings a leadership-driven training style that goes far beyond drills — he helps build athletes from the inside out.

Boxing (Youth Ages 12-17)

Boxing for your youth (aged 12-17) is an incredible confidence boost for those challenging years. Boxing toughens up your child, sharpens increases their thinking speed as they physically adapt to faster combinations of offence and defence in this game of kinetic chess. This translates into better academic performance, courage to take the right risks, and excellent self-defence with weapons literally always at hand – giving parents peace of mind. Once in the program, they get a White t-shirt with bars on the sleeve that the Coach fills out as they progress! When the bars are filled, your child progresses to the next colour shirt until they achieve black level. Competitive opportunities always available but not required to participate.
Introductory Session For This Class:
Bring your 12-17 year old in, meet the coaches to learn about what is best for them. Tour our state- of-the-art facility, and after they can change into activewear such as T-shirt, track pants/shorts, and indoor shoes where they can begin their first 50 minute class, and the first step to fulfilling their new potential! GO Kickboxing (Youth Ages 12-17)

Kickboxing is an engaging and empowering martial art that’s ideal for teens aged 12 to 17. At Champion Gym, our kickboxing program is tailored to help older students develop critical life skills like discipline, focus, and self-control, while keeping them active and motivated. Through a combination of punches, kicks, knees, elbows, and defensive techniques, teens will enhance their coordination, balance, and overall fitness in a structured and safe environment.

What makes our program stand out is its graded system, where students can earn rankings as they progress. This system encourages goal-setting and perseverance, as each rank represents an achievement they can be proud of. The structured path of progression fosters a sense of determination and confidence, helping teens stay committed as they build both physical and mental strength.

Parents appreciate that kickboxing provides a productive outlet for their teen’s energy, while also instilling values like respect, teamwork, and resilience. Under the guidance of Coach Alex, a Master and former national champion, your teen will participate in fun, dynamic workouts that build strength, endurance, and self-discipline—all within a positive and supportive atmosphere designed to help them thrive.

Introductory Session For This Class:

In the introductory kickboxing class for Champion Youth (ages 12 to 17 at Champion Gym, your teen will get the chance to meet our experienced and supportive coaches. The class begins with an energizing warm-up to get them ready, followed by an introduction to key kickboxing techniques such as proper stance, punches, kicks, and defensive moves. Our coaches focus on teaching these skills in a way that builds confidence and emphasizes correct form, while keeping the class engaging and motivating.

Throughout the session, your teen will practice these techniques through drills and partner

exercises, with coaches offering guidance and feedback at every stage. The class is designed to be both fun and challenging, giving teens an opportunity to improve their fitness, focus, and self- discipline. As they progress, they will also be introduced to our ranking system, where their hard work and dedication can lead to earning higher ranks.

For their first class, your teen should wear comfortable athletic clothing such as a T-shirt and shorts or track pants. Water fountain and bottle refill station available. Most importantly, they should bring a positive attitude and an eagerness to try something new!

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Youth Ages 12-17)

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art that focuses on self-defense through ground fighting and grappling techniques, emphasizing leverage and technique over brute strength. It’s an excellent choice for children aged 12 to 17 because it teaches them how to handle physical confrontations safely and effectively, while also building valuable life skills.

At Champion Gym, we emphasize discipline, respect, and perseverance. BJJ promotes confidence by empowering students to overcome challenges both on and off the mat. It encourages problem- solving and strategic thinking as students learn to anticipate their opponent’s moves and counter them with precise techniques.

Beyond physical fitness, BJJ instills resilience and a strong work ethic, as progress is earned through consistent effort and practice. Your child will learn not only self-defense but also how to handle adversity with a calm and focused mindset. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu also fosters a sense of community, creating bonds of friendship and support with teammates in a positive and controlled environment.

Introductory Session For This Class:

In the 50-minute introductory Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) class at Champion Gym, your child will be welcomed by our experienced coaches, who are dedicated to creating a positive and safe environment for beginners. The class starts with a warm-up, followed by an introduction to basic BJJ techniques such as falling safely, escaping from difficult positions, and understanding key positions. Our coaches are hands-on, providing personalized guidance to help students grasp these fundamental movements while building confidence and body awareness.

For the first class, your child should wear comfortable athletic clothing such as a T-shirt and track pants—no special equipment is needed for the trial session. Water fountain and bottle refill station available. Most importantly, we encourage an open mind and a willingness to learn as they get to know the coaches and explore what Champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has to offer.

Olympic Taekwondo (Novice/Advanced)

Olympic Taekwondo is an exciting martial art that focuses on dynamic kicking techniques, making it an excellent choice for children. At the Champion Taekwondo Academy at Champion Gym, our Olympic Taekwondo program is designed to enhance physical fitness, coordination, and flexibility while teaching important life skills such as discipline, focus, and respect. Children will learn a variety of kicks, strikes, and self-defence techniques in a structured, safe environment that promotes both physical and mental development.

One of the key benefits of Olympic Taekwondo is its structured belt ranking system, which

encourages children to set and achieve goals. As they progress through the ranks and earn different colored belts, they learn the value of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Our classes also emphasize respect for others and teamwork, helping children grow emotionally as well as physically.

Ninja Warrior (Novice/Intermediate/Advanced)

Champion Ninja Warrior is a high-energy, fun-filled program that challenges children both physically and mentally. At Champion Gym, this program is designed to help kids improve their strength, agility, coordination, and problem-solving skills as they navigate through obstacle courses inspired by the popular Ninja Warrior challenges. Each class is packed with climbing, jumping, balancing, and swinging activities that help children build confidence, perseverance, and athleticism in a safe and supportive environment.

Our experienced coaches, Todd and Dan, ensure that every child, regardless of ability, feels encouraged and motivated to do their best. The program is perfect for kids who love to be active and thrive on challenges. Parents love Champion Ninja Warrior because it teaches valuable lessons about resilience, determination, and teamwork, all while keeping kids engaged and excited about fitness.

For their introductory class, your child should wear indoor athletic shoes and comfortable clothing like track pants or shorts. Water fountain and bottle refill station available. A positive attitude and a willingness to tackle new challenges are all they need to get started!

Gymnastics (Youth Ages 12-17)

Champion Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) with Coach Randy is an engaging and dynamic program designed for teens aged 13 to 17 who are looking to develop well-rounded martial arts skills. In these classes at Champion Gym, students will learn a combination of striking, grappling, and ground-fighting techniques, blending disciplines such as boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Coach Randy is dedicated to creating a fun and supportive environment where teens can improve their fitness, technique, and confidence while learning effective self-defense strategies.

The MMA program encourages teens to challenge themselves physically and mentally, building resilience, discipline, and focus. Whether your teen is new to martial arts or has experience, Coach Randy tailors the instruction to help each student grow at their own pace. Parents love the program because it teaches their teens valuable life skills, like perseverance, respect, and teamwork, while keeping them active and engaged in a positive environment.

Krav Maga (Youth Ages 12-17)

Commando Krav Maga is a practical and highly effective self-defense system designed to empower teens with real-world skills for personal protection. At Champion Gym, our Commando Krav Maga program for teens aged 13 to 17 focuses on teaching quick, decisive techniques to handle various self-defense scenarios. Students will learn to defend against grabs, strikes, and weapon threats, using techniques that prioritize safety and efficiency. This program emphasizes situational awareness, confidence, and the ability to remain calm under pressure, all in a safe and controlled environment.

Our experienced instructors guide teens through practical drills and scenarios, helping them build both physical and mental strength. Commando Krav Maga not only improves fitness and self- discipline but also instills life skills like resilience, critical thinking, and the ability to make quick decisions in stressful situations.
