Teen Jiu-Jitsu Grande Prairie
Jiu-jitsu is the thinking person’s martial art — and it’s perfect for teenagers. Champion Gym’s teen jiu-jitsu program for ages 12-17 teaches Champion Jiu-Jitsu, a grappling system focused on using leverage, timing, and technique to control and submit opponents regardless of size.
Why Jiu-Jitsu for Teenagers
Most confrontations end up on the ground. Jiu-jitsu gives teens the ability to control situations without striking — a practical, real-world self-defence skill. It also demands problem-solving in real time, builds mental toughness through live rolling, and creates the kind of confidence that comes from actually testing yourself.
What the Program Covers
Teens learn takedowns and takedown defence, guard work, positional control, submissions, escapes, and live rolling. Both Gi (with the uniform jacket) and No Gi (without) are trained. The curriculum progresses through a structured ranking system. Ego-free environment is a rule here — teammates help each other improve.
Your Coaches
Teen jiu-jitsu is coached by Devon Sherwood, Alberta Provincial Jiu-Jitsu Champion, and Coach Raphael — a former Canadian Heavyweight MMA Champion who has competed extensively in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission grappling throughout his career. Between them, they bring elite competition experience and genuine technical depth to every class.
